lost cause

What irks me the most is when people define what feminism is. I know, we all have our own ideology of feminism.
Someone told me, that feminism means, "you've been supressed by the corporate world" and that I am too young to actually call myself a "feminist" because i haven't even experienced the "real world". Can this person get anymore shallow??? I tried my hardest to explain to him why i am a feminist, and he kept insisting that the ONLY reason why i am a feminist is because of the failure of my past relationships. NO! (I guess he totally misunderstood what I meant when i said that i wouldnt be a feminist if I was in such a secluded relationship) I had told him, being a feminist is more than the generic definition of it on the dictionary (yes, cause he had to look up 'feminism' on the dictionary) let's say that being supressed by the corporate world is PART of this generations feminism, but thanks to our sistas from the first wave and second wave feminism, things are better than ever! But the focus is on the internal effects of societal implications on young women. And i dont know how he doesnt get this because it only takes COMMON SENSE to realize that EVERYWHERE you go, and EVERYWHERE you look, WOMEN ARE STILL BEING OBJECTIFIED. from mysoginistic homes, to our mysoginistic country. WHAT OTHER KIND OF EXPLANATION DO YOU NEED?

But, that whole discussion was a lost cause because you can never convince someone who refuses to consider your opinions because you are rather "young" and still don't know the "real" definition of feminism. yeah right. easy for you to say cause your not the one in my shoes.
